Ordinary Lives in Extraordinary Times – Stranorlar Rural District in the Revolutionary Years 1912 – 1925
Presentation and Discussion With Dr Arlene Crampsie on her findings on local support for the Ulster Covenant and Declaration, the mobilisation of nationalist and unionist sentiment via the UVF and Irish Volunteers and the role of local government in the War of Independence and Civil War.  This will be using three different sets of sources – PRONI’s online covenant, Reports of Royal Irish Constabulary and the Rural District Council minutes in Donegal County Archives.
Dr Arlene Crampsie is an historical geographer in the School of Geography, UCD. Her research interests lie at the intersection of political, socio-cultural and environmental geographies highlighting the role played by local communities in shaping Irish landscapes. She is a Donegal native and has published and lectured frequently on the history and historical geography of the county.
